Charles Ervin entered employment with the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad in Argentine, Kansas as a fireman in 1909.
On August 28th, 1918 he was certified as a locomotive engineer, where he remained in that capacity until
he retired on March 23rd, 1963

This is the Illinois Central Engine Permit Pass that
Charles Ervin used to qualify as a locomotive fireman.
This pass was active for only eleven days from
April 4th to April 15th of 1907
Charles Ervin later moved to Kansas City in 1908-09
